No coração de Conselheiro Lafaiete, entre as paredes da antiga cadeia pública, repousa mais que um acervo: repousa a alma de um homem que dedicou a vida a proteger a memória coletiva. Antônio Luiz Batista Perdigão, nascido em 15 de novembro de 1918, foi museólogo, memorialista, historiador, cronista, arquivista e um apaixonado pela cultura da cidade que conheceu ainda como Queluz.
Filho de um ferroviário e de uma dona de casa, cresceu ao lado da Igreja de Santo Antônio e, desde cedo, demonstrava um comportamento curioso: acumulava recortes de jornais, retratos, programas de eventos e objetos inusitados. Era o início de uma missão que só terminaria nove décadas depois, deixando um dos legados mais importantes da história lafaietense
Juventude inquieta e apaixonada por cultura
Estudou nas tradicionais escolas Domingos Bebiano, Manoel Martins e Monsenhor Horta. Apesar de ter se formado contabilista, os números nunca o cativaram. Preferia as letras, os salões e as histórias. Fundou clubes esportivos como o 02 de Janeiro, foi diretor do Clube Santa Cecília por mais de 30 anos e dançava com tanta paixão que chegou a vencer concursos de tango e valsa vienense.
Viveu por um período no Rio de Janeiro, mas o chamado da terra natal falou mais alto. Retornou a Lafaiete no fim da década de 1950 e passou a organizar meticulosamente o acervo que reunira ao longo da vida.
